Hey everyone,
Almost 2 months have passed again, so it was time for a new release. The release is a bit earlier than planned, because of some problems with the msn protocol. All problems related to this should be fixed in this new release.
The source can be found at [tarball | zipball]. Just download, extract and run! The new version for Ubuntu will be available in a few hours in our ppa. Downloads for other platforms should also be available soon.
Now let's see what new features there are in this release:
- Connection issues with the msn protocol are fixed
- Better google talk and facebook support (you'll need to have python-xmpp installed to see it)
- A more stable plugin/theme download system
- Unity launcher support for Oneiric
- Settings are also saved when you log out of your desktop account
- A working Windows installer (again)
- Updated translations
The aforementioned Facebook support improvements include an experimental method for Facebook mail support. This method will be improved in the next emesene version.
Thanks to everyone who contributed, be it in the form of code, translations, packages, bug reports, or just keeping us awake in the irc channel. For everyone who wants to help with translating emesene, the translations can be found at launchpad. The template will be updated every Saturday, meaning that there could be new strings to translate every week. All translations you make will be included in the next release.
So have fun with the new release, and if you happen to find any bugs, please report them.

every version works with ubuntu 10.10. If you are looking for precompiled packages just read Sbte's post specifically the part about the emesene-stable PPA
no windows installer for 2.11.9 and 2.11.11 :(

I just wanted to thank emesene developers for their work. I can only imagine how frustrating it can be at times to maintain an open source app that has to be compatible with a closed protocol such as msn.
I updated to 2.11.11 after a long time using 1.6.3 and I was surprised about how good it looked (and worked!).
So thanks again and I hope there will be developers interested in maintaining emesene, for many years.
I want the default conversation "theme" from the emesene 1.x :(

ok i use windows 7. I can connect to my account with the new emesene 2.11.11 but when i try to send an instant message to an online contact i get a crash. I have done it many times and still same crash..
Probably a webkit issue, try choosing the other extension for Conversation Output.
Unfortunately there's no dev with Windows (7) so we cannot debug it.

Buenas noches, he logrado que funcione el Emesene 2.11.11 en Windows 7 usando como base lo que han dicho en los comentarios.
Para que al hablar no reviente hay que cambiar en Preferencias, extensiones, el conversation_output a output_text y funciona perfectamente.
Por otro lado el sonido solo suena cuando tienes la ventana de conversaciones minimizada.
Emesene 2.11.11 works in Windows 7 if you change the extension of "conversation_output" from "Audium Output" to "Text Output". It works!
The emesene sounds only works if you minimize emesene.

Hola, yo también conseguí hacer funcionar el emesene 2.11.11 en Windows 7 cambiando el conversation_output, pero he notado otro problema en esta versión: Recibo avisos de nuevos emails pero el botón de acceso al correo no funciona y no se abre ningún navegador al pulsarlo.
Hay alguna solución para esto?
También me gustaría saber si se puede eliminar la marca horaria en los textos de las conversaciones. En anteriores versiones se podía, pero en esta no veo opción para desactivarla.

I noticed since two releases ago, that the contacts can't see my actual avatar no matter how many times i change it or the format in that it's the image file, also i can send files and see my contact's avatar, but whenever i receive a file via transfer, the progress stuck at 99%, i want to know if this is due to Micrososft constant changes in their protocol or if it's something i actually can solve by myself, greetings and amazing work emesene team, congrats (RIP aMSN2)
Incoming messages not being displayed on conversation window:
I'm using this release: emesene-emesene-c1bfdeb on Kubuntu 10.10, kernel 2.6.35-30-generic.
At some point during the conversation (usually after the first 3 or 4 messages) I stop seeing incoming messages in the conversation window. I can still see them on the debug window though. This happens using adium output or regular output, in individual or group conversations, but not always.
Can't download, github show me an "Access Denied" error.

Known Issue: on windows 7 32bits I've had a lock for a few seconds, then it started working again, I guess it's a webkit loading problem with windows 7, I don't know what we can do about that...
NOT tested on windows 64bits, please somebody do so
I have the same problem that iWii!lL: No contacts when I log in.
I use Ubuntu Natty, emesene 2.11.11. I noticed that emesene takes too much time to log in, and when it does, my contact list has ZERO contacts.

The Links for emesene for windows are broken. The working links are posted some lines up.
Latest portable version works on Windows 7 64 bit.
It froze for a while when sending first message and the layout looks a little different then before but other then that it seems to be working!

emesene 2.11.7 no era realmente portable, usaba una configuracion global en el sistema, si queres un emesene portable de verdad tenes que usar la 2.11.11

hola tengo un par de problemas como por ej. con los emoticonos personalizados que no me los deja guardar no se porque .... también no se porque se cierra solo o se pone oscura la pantalla cuando inicia ya me paso varias veces cosa que con el 1.6 no me pasaba :S .... gracias :D ..... tengo ubuntu 10.4 (no se si sirva de algo esa información)
This version of emesene is awesome! I was using 1.6 until now, but I'll keep 2.11.11, it is excellent!
I have one suggestion though. When adding contacts do a chat window, on emesene 1.6 I could select multiple contacts holding CTRL and add then all at once to the chat, but now I can only select one contact each time. Maybe you guys can add this feature back?

was cruising along fine with an older version of emesene in Ubuntu, I added the emesene info to synaptic so i can get the latest version. added version 2.11.11 and authentication fail every time.
Unfortunately i have to go back to Windows live messenger, is not that i like this, but emesene 2.11.11 is not working properly.
Authentication is done, but contact list is not load, or load partly.
I have to logout and login 5 or 6 times to work, or not work at all.
My emesene 2.11.11 in Ubuntu 11.10 64Bits his constant crashes.

Hola, tengo win7 x64 y tuve que cambiar a output text la conversación para q funcione, sino se tildaba al hacer click en la conversación.
Ahora me anda bien exceptuando que no puedo agregar emoticones de forma individual (de paso, existe alguna forma de hacerlo masivamente?) ni puedo copiar conversaciones y pegarlas en otra aplicación.
Ojalá puedan solucionar esto rápido, cuando no sabía q había que cambiar la conversación me terminé volviendo al Live Messenger que es horrible. Muchas Gracias por este programa!
@Eze, lo de no poder copiar y pegar en otra aplicación es un error de py/gtk con win7 en 64bits, no podemos hacer nada hasta que lo arreglen ellos.
Lo de tildarse usando el AdiumOutput no es un cuelgue total, sólo pasa la primera vez y es temporal (se demora un tiempo, se desconecta y vuelve a andar) y después anda bien. Parece ser un error con Webkit y windows7 64 y 32bits que tampoco sabemos por qué sucede.
